About the Author
Gerard J. Tortora is a professor of biology and teaches microbiology, human anatomy, and physiology at Bergen Community College in Paramus, New Jersey. He received his M.A. in Biology from Montclair State College in 1965. He belongs to numerous biology/microbiology organizations, such as the American Society of Microbiology (ASM), Human Anatomy and Physiology Society (HAPS), American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), National Education Association (NEA), New Jersey Educational Association (NJEA), and the Metropolitan Association of College and University Biologists (MACUB). Jerry is the author of a number of biological science textbooks. In 1995, he was selected as one of the finest faculty scholars at Bergen Community College and was named Distinguished Faculty Scholar. In 1996, Jerry received a National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) excellence award from the University of Texas and was selected to represent Bergen Community College in a campaign to increase awareness of the contributions of community colleges to higher education. Berdell R. Funke received his Ph.D., M.S., and B.S. in microbiology from Kansas State University. He has spent his professional years as a professor of microbiology at North Dakota State University. He taught introductory microbiology, including laboratory sections, general microbiology, food microbiology, soil microbiology, clinical parasitology, and pathogenic microbiology. As a research scientist in the Experiment Station at North Dakota State, he has published numerous papers on soil microbiology and food microbiology. Christine L. Case is a registered microbiologist and a professor of microbiology at Skyline College in San Bruno, California, where she has taught for the past 38 years. She received her EdD. in curriculum and instruction from Nova Southeastern University and her M.A. in microbiology from San Francisco State University. She was Director for the Society for Industrial Microbiology (SIM). She received the ASM and California Hayward outstanding educator awards. In addition to teaching, Chris contributes regularly to professional literature, develops innovative educational methodologies, and maintains a personal and professional commitment to conservation and the importance of science in society. Chris is also an avid photographer, and many of her photographs appear in this book.

Excellent value & quality!!!

The book I ordered costs $4.95 plus a few bucks for shipping. I probably saved around $120.00 if I would of bought it at the school bookstore. The book was in excellent condition, like brand new. Just make sure you order with enough time before your class starts because the order took about a week and a half to get to me. But other than that, I highly recommend ordering from amazon.

Elliot Bendoly is an associate professor at Emory University's Goizueta Business School. He serves as an associate editor for the Journal of Operations Management, a senior editor for Production and Operations Management, and an associate editor for Decision Sciences. His research has been published in several academic journals including MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, and the Journal of Applied Psychology. He is the co-editor of Strategic ERP Extension and Use and of the Handbook of Research in Enterprise Systems, as well as the author of the first edition of Excel Basics to Blackbelt (Cambridge University Press, 2008). He holds a PhD from Indiana University.

Tutorial and Reference for Quality Analysis (that maybe you didn't even know) you can perform using Excel

Bendoly makes the statement that “being familiar with the functions covered up to this point...” differentiates one from 90 percent of current Excel users. I think that is me… and the statement comes on page 24 of the book!

I work with lots of other top 10 percenters and am recommending this book to each member of my team. The narrative here is clear and the examples are both topical and engaging. I find three elements of the text to be particularly compelling.

First, Chapter 4 on Visualization provides terrific insight into data visualization. This is particularly valuable (for me) when it comes to the discussion in section 4.5 on Complex-Form Heat Mapping, an underused and potentially powerful tool for communicating analysis and ideas.

Second, the data simplification tactics discussed in Chapter 5 offer valuable opportunities for anyone tasked with conducting moderate to advanced analysis – particularly if it is survey or market segmentation based. Far too often we see na�ve analyses in these situations. Furthermore, many analysts feel they lack the necessary tools. This chapter can help teams do better by applying an already familiar tool set!

Third, Chapters 8 and 9 on simulation approaches help readers understand alternatives for tackling uncertainty in their analyses. We often see this dimension of problems ignored in the business cases and other decision-making models we create, much to our detriment. I am convinced that the reason for this lapse is that people just don’t know how to handle the challenge. Help is provided here.

To be sure, there are other insightful gems available here (I will use the later chapters on Visual Basic editing as reference to be sure). In that sense, this book will be valuable to me both as tutorial and reference. Overall, a great find for those who endeavor to perform quality analysis using Excel.

There is nothing else out there that covers the full potential of Excel in the way that this text does. It's very easy to read even if you're a novice to graphical decision support tool development, but has gems that I doubt some of the most advanced developers are even aware of. A firmer grasp on Excel through an easy to follow book.

The book is a great complement with any excel class that you might be taking. I personally found the chapters visually explained for students who do not even have a hardcore excel background. The progression of the book makes it easy to follow and the chapters have some very useful tips and tricks that are helping me in my internship in analytics.
Buy this book if you want to have a firm grasp in excel and how powerful excel can be to visualize data. There are instances and examples of things that you would not even believe excel can do! The VBA coding introduction and shallow dive towards the end helps one in form creation and excel programming to handle complex projects and real world problems, all within excel.

Overall, very helpful! Highly recommended!

interesting early American perspective, strong female character, insightful american social history

I had to read this for a University English class concerning early American literature. I don't remember a great deal about the specifics of this book, as I was preoccupied in those days NEVERTHELESS! I remember certain scenes that were really very interesting and unexpected to find from an early American novel.

This was written by a woman, and her perspective, and the early American world of the new England town the characters live in, was definitely interesting at points, even compelling sometimes, and I was around 20 years old.

There is a thoughtful, sometimes philosophical, and somewhat pedagogical tone to the adventures of the women and men of this young but not always dull American expose.

All these reviews that attempt to compare past and current James Patterson novels are a bit misguided. Patterson does NOT write more than a dozen major novels a year with only some minimal assistance from numerous journeymen co-authors. If anything it is the other way around. Patterson, as described by some of his co-authors, acts primarily as a mentor and editor to help shape the works which they bring to him and then help promote them in exchange for co-credit. That's fine....that's good business apparently....but the basic book is not Patterson's so trying to compare it to his previous solo works is largely irrelevant. Yes, he does have some input and he makes sure the basics are all there as well some of the key elements he knows are important from experience but he is not the primary writer on these co-op novels.

That said, each co-authored novel should best be reviewed on it's own merits with little or no regard for Patterson's previous work. In this case I found the story and characters to be compelling and worth the ride, albeit a bit over the top when it comes to plot twists. My recommendation is to read it and enjoy it but only if your willingness to suspend your disbelief is nearly unlimited and you don't feel the need to exercise much critical judgement or common sense. But, hey it's just a novel so why get too picky, right?

Another disappointment from James Patterson

I've been a James Patterson fan since I was in college (over 15 years ago), so I'd like to think I'm well versed with all things James Patterson, from the Alex Cross series, Michael Bennett & Woman's Murder Club to his stand alone books. I've probably read 90% of everything he's ever written in the thriller genre. Although I have to say the last 3 years (in my opinion) his novels have seriously fell off. They've become too predictable, a little boring and just not what I'm used to reading when it comes to James Patterson. I feel that with his introduction into the children's arena for writing, his adult thrillers have suffered. Or maybe it's the co-authors he's been collaborating with I don't know. You can't tell that from his continued best sellers, but for those who truly cherish the original writings of James Patterson like The Quickie, Kiss the Girls, You've Been Warned, Honeymoon, Don't Blink, Sail, etc., his latest novels are no comparison in suspense, intrigue or originality. I was very disappointed...yet again.

1st & last James Patterson novel

I read a lot and love a well written mystery. Invisible, was not a well written mystery. In
my opinion, the main character, Emmy, was never really developed. Neither was her relationship was Books. It's as if Patterson threw a vague past relationship in there to fill space, certainly not to engage the reader. As the story progressed, I I feel the part of Graham was much better written than the detective side of the story. (Sad when you are pulling for the killer.), And, don't get me started on ending. No spoiler alert here because there isn't much to spoil. It is as if Mr. Patterson had to rush off to dinner so he slapped some crap down and called the story "done". I know James Patterson's novels are no great works of fiction, but I would think, he expected more from himself and his readers. This wasn't even what I would call a good "summer read" or a "beach book". I like a book that makes me feel even a slight bit different when I'm finished. One that makes me "think". Invisible just made me think I had wasted my time and money.

A Series That WON'T DISAPPOINT YOU!!

Claudy Conn is a Very Talented Author! If you have read her Books you already know this.... However if you haven't then this box set is a PERFECT PLACE TO START & it's a Great Price as well!! I bought & read all the books separately! I loved them! The books flow nicely & the characters are well developed!! I'M NOT A PERSON TO LEAVE REVIEWS THAT CONTAIN SPOILERS! I am honest when I write reviews as to if I like the book, if I like the characters, & if the book flows well! This series passes all of the above!! SO WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?? Amazing Hot and Magical Box Set!!!!

The Legend Series happen to be one of my favorite series of all time. Claudy Conn's extraordinary writing bring you to a place of breathtaking beauty. Her detailed stories bring you into the book and you feel as though you are acting in the characters shoes. You will not be disappointed with any of Claudy Conn's work.

Prince In The Mist Review:

What can I say? Claudy has done it again. I have read many of Claudy Conn's books and find each one better than last. She is making it more and more difficult to pick a favorite book written by her. Every book is my favorite from this wonderful writer. Prince in the Mist was not only hot and sexy, but it was filled with romance and magical place you only dream about. I love how descriptive Claudy writes all of her books. You actually feel as if you are in the book and feeling the characters emotions firsthand. And let's talk about feeling of another kind. Prince Breslyn is not only hot but possessive as well. Just how I like them. Chartelle was a heroine that I loved as well. Beautiful, loving, and even a little heart-broken, but still managed to be strong enough to know what she wanted in her life. Thank goodness I have more of Claudy's book that I can read. She has become one of my favorite authors and will definitely become one of yours as well. Prince in the Mist along with all of this author's books are a must read.

While I have brought these books individually -- the bundle is a fantastic deal!!! In this series, Claudy takes you deep into the world of fae, explaining each character and their important roles within their magical world. Once you finish the first book, it will leave you with great anticipation as to what the next book will bring -- and buying the bundles lets the series continue as fast as you can read, without waiting for Claudy to publish it LOL. It is a great series that will keep you wanting more. I have no regrets whatsoever buying the books individually ... Claudy Conn is a phenomenal author, all of her series are great!!!
