This book scores high with his title and the front cover page. The author, no doubts, understands the concept of attracting readers by these two marketing ideas. While, I'm trying not to let this comment discourage the author, I feel that it's necessary to share my view. First, the book is fraught with lots of grammar errors and spelling mistakes. It' s very very amateurish in the sense that it uses profanity with no bounds. I was completely appalled. Though we now live in the age where not being politically correct seem sexy, an author is expected to write with some level of decency and class. The targeted audience, by the title, won't quite appreciate reading a piece with the d, b word, a word, etc on nearly every other line of a book. In addition, the books lacks depth.
Apart from a few quote s here and there, there are no any logical or theoretically based analyses; it's all common knowledge or what had been already said, therefore the book is very juvenile. After reading some pages, I was curious to know who published the since it did seem the publisher offer any guide or support to the author before print.
The book is mixed with all talks about an alpha person and author's personal stories. This style is better off on a blog. I seriously, with all the respect, that the author secures a mentor and continue working hard including doing research to do justice to this great topic.

Stop being a beta -- giving in to negativity, complaining, and doing nothing about it. Nicholas gives you the road-map on how to fuel the full potential that lies within you. This book details things you can start doing right now and things you have to work on a bit more.

These words from the author summarize quite well how the alpha traits will help you achieve your best life -- "Perseverance is an individual's unique ability to achieve success even in light of complications along the way." Nicholas shows you how to keep that laser focus on what you decide is the life best for you.

What really resonated with me were these points:
- How to prioritize
- How to still see potential to succeed despite moments of failure/setbacks
- Being unshakable while under pressure
- Positive (impenetrable) mindset that leads to purposeful focus that lets nothing stand in your way
- Ability to take a hit and keep pushing
- Remaining calm when negativity closes in so you can still see success potential
- Not letting situations control you; you control them by keeping the focus on achieving your goals
- Don't get hung up on past mistakes -- See them, learn, adjust, and keep moving forward.

The next Tony Robbins has arrived!

Are you an Alpha and you know it? Then you don't need this book. For the rest of us who wish we could be as confident and envy their leadership styles - we need this book. This book will show you where you need to improve your leadership skills and how to kill it in the marketplace and become the authority that you know that you are! This is no fluff piece of confidence building. This is a serious book with some well thought out strategies with a very direct coaching style.
I especially enjoyed the chapter on Body Language. Outside of therapeutic circles, I don't think I have ever read such a well written and well understood body of information. I consider myself somewhat of an expert in this area, so I read this with a very critical eye. The author is bang on with his information.
Overall, this book is extremely well written, and well organized. His writing style is clear and succinct and it resonates with his audience. His drive and desire to help others comes through clearly in his text. Mr. Dodge holds my utmost respect for writing this book. If he is as confident as he is knowledgeable, then I have to say - move over Tony Robbins. I would love to attend one of his speaking engagements and hear this man talk. I am in awe.

Great for inspiration

Def a good read and worth at least the kindle price tag! Title is little misleading, as I was hoping it would read like stereo instructions (do this, go here, show this thing to said person, get job) but it was more a personal tale of perseverance with lots of life and career tips. Thus is life. Anyone expecting a solid guide but open for some inspiration is in for a treat! :)

About the Author
Molly ONeill is from Daytona State College, where she has taught for 22 years in the School of Mathematics. She has taught a variety of courses from developmental mathematics to calculus. Before she came to Florida, Molly taught as an adjunct instructor at the University of Michigan-Dearborn, Eastern Michigan University, Wayne State University, and Oakland Community College. Molly earned a bachelor of science in mathematics and a master of arts and teaching from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Besides this textbook, she has authored several course supplements for college algebra, trigonometry, and precalculus and has reviewed texts for developmental mathematics.
I differ from many of my colleagues in that math was not always easy for me. But in seventh grade I had a teacher who taught me that if I follow the rules of mathematics, even I could solve math problems. Once I understood this, I enjoyed math to the point of choosing it for my career. I now have the greatest job because I get to do math every day and I have the opportunity to influence my students just as I was influenced. Authoring these texts has given me another avenue to reach even more students.

Julie Miller is from Daytona State College, where she has taught developmental and upper-level mathematics courses for 20 years. Prior to her work at Daytona State College, she worked as a software engineer for General Electric in the area of flight and radar simulation. Julie earned a bachelor of science in applied mathematics from Union College in Schenectady, New York, and a master of science in mathematics from the University of Florida. In addition to this textbook, she has authored several course supplements for college algebra, trigonometry, and precalculus, as well as several short works of fiction and nonfiction for young readers.
My father is a medical researcher, and I got hooked on math and science when I was young and would visit his laboratory. I can remember using graph paper to plot data points for his experiments and doing simple calculations. He would then tell me what the peaks and features in the graph meant in the context of his experiment. I think that applications and hands-on experience made math come alive for me and I’d like to see math come alive for my students.

Nancy Hyde served as a full-time faculty member of the Mathematics Department at Broward College for 24 years. During this time she taught the full spectrum of courses from developmental math through differential equations. She received a bachelor of science degree in math education from Florida State University and a master’s degree in math education from Florida Atlantic University. She has conducted workshops and seminars for both students and teachers on the use of technology in the classroom. In addition to this textbook, she has authored a graphing calculator supplement for College Algebra.
I grew up in Brevard County, Florida, where my father worked at Cape Canaveral. I was always excited by mathematics and physics in relation to the space program. As I studied higher levels of mathematics I became more intrigued by its abstract nature and infinite possibilities. It is enjoyable and rewarding to convey this perspective to students while helping them to understand mathematics.

If James Bond were a Druid

I read Book 1 of the Iron Druid Chronicles a few weeks ago and am struggling to recall enough details of the plot to write even a brief recap. And perhaps that is all the recap you really need.

Atticus is a super hot druid (see cover) which is impressive as he is actually thousands of years old. He lives in Arizona selling tea and tarrow cards to old people and college students (respectively) while romping about the desert with his talking dog/banter buddy Oberon. Ages ago he managed to get his hands on the legendary sword Fragarach and now Aenghus Og, the powerful Celtic God and original owner, has decided he wants it back.

Atticus is the James Bond of Druids. He's powerful, routinely underestimated, has lots of nifty cool gadgets, and women frequently drop their panties for him. Although Atticus doesn't have much time for lady-fun because has his hands full battling the minions of Aenghus Og. Luckily for Atticus he is near-immortal due to an arrangement he made long ago with Morrigan, Celtic Chooser of the Slain, who has agreed to not come for him. So that's handy.

Seems like a decent setup for a fun romp. But too many things bothered me about Hounded:

1. It reads like watching a video game. Atticus battles increasingly challenging minions until finally facing the big bad. Also, like video games, Atticus regenerates life points quickly by sleeping next to mother earth.
2. The ability to regenerate quickly and being near-immortal frankly removes a lot of the tension from the battle sequences.
3. There are never any consequences to things Atticus does. The most obvious example was when Atticus beheads a baddie in full view of a mortal neighbor who basically shrugs it off because Atticus is a good guy and wouldn't have done so without a good reason.
4. Atticus has no personal or emotional journey. In fact he doesn't really seem to want for anything beyond being left alone to play with his dog and hang out in his shop. He's simply reacting to the stream of baddies that show up on his front door.
5. Is there such a thing as too much action? There is so much action going on that I started skimming. It wasn't like I was worried about how it was going to turn out (see point #1 & #2).
6. I think the dog (Oberon) is supposed to be funnier than he is. Yeah Oberon is continually asking for a harem of french poodles to frolic with. Eh...OK.

This is a hugely popular series that gets rave reviews on Amazon. It is definitely better than your average Urban Fantasy, filled with lots of action, a large cast of immortal characters, and snappy banter. If you're looking for fun, light, accessible fantasy, this definitely fits the bill. But it's also sort of forgettable. I considered buying the second book in the series but I suspect it's probably a lot like the first (if I'm missing out on greatness, please let me know). I figure I could save $8 by just putting this on the shelf and re-reading it in a year or so.

Urban fantasy isn't my thing. I love the Kate Daniels/Magic Bites series. But generally most of what I've read (Patricia Briggs, Jeaniene FrostKaren, Marie Moning) has left me cold. So maybe this book is better than I think it is, and it's simply just not my thing.

Great start to introduce a new series.

The adventures of Atticus and his Irish Wolfhound, Oberon are entertaining and fast paced reading. This is a good start to a new series about Atticus a several thousand year old Druid, and how he stays looking like a 23 year old college student. To try to avoid some bad guy God's, Atticus lives in Arizona, but is found and used as a pawn by several gods that have him in mortal danger several times in this book to achieve their ultimate goals, not caring about the end results for Atticus. Atticus isn't thrilled to find out just about every one of his old acquaintances has used him some way or another, but he holds to his word, and we meet several characters that I hope to see in future stories, be they werewolves, vampires or old Irish widows. Enjoyable fast read, once it gets going hard to stop until the end.

When modern day meets Celtic past

I really enjoyed reading Hounded. It was unlike anything I have ever read. It's full of humor and exciting adventure. This story is about a Druid named Atticus O'Sullivan who has been trying to stay alive for about 21 Centuries. The book contained Celtic Mythology while Atticus himself is as modern as the day. Great characters, Witches, Werewolves, Vampires, Gods and Demons.
Atticus and his sidekick Irish Wolfhound Oberon will keep you entertained in this Mythical, Modern Fantasy. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of this series.

I give Hounded 4 stars for it's funny Fantasy read.
I would recommend this book to Fantasy Fans.

Moises Kaufman and his Tectonic Theater Project have written a play documenting the aftermath of the savage killing of Matthew Shepard, including the perspectives of both friends and strangers: The Laramie Project. This innovative theatrical composition, structured not in scenes, but in "moments," addresses the various issues relating to the tragedy of Shepard, a young gay man whose murder has since become a symbol for America's struggle against intolerance. Kaufman's approach is actor-based, as opposed to text-based; a side-effect of this actor-based approach is that in print form it seems as though something is missing. However, the play promises to move the reader with its authentic portrayal of a small town facing a terrifying event.

Additional speeches are taken from journals the authors kept while they were involved in this project. From these fragments, a powerful whole is created, giving readers and audiences a full and shimmering picture of a quiet town suddenly thrust into the media spotlight and hastily branded as "backward." Shepard's friends are heard from, as are the friends of his convicted killers. Masterfully woven together to breathtaking effect are statements from Laramie's religious leaders-some of whom condemn the murder, others of whom condemn the victim. A thoughtful and moving theatrical tour de force.

The savage murder of gay college student Matthew Shepard in October 1998 left deep wounds in the psyche of Laramie, WY, and in that of our entire nation. Soon after Matthew's death, Kaufman and members of his Tectonic Theater Project (also responsible for the highly acclaimed Gross Indecency: The Three Trials of Oscar Wilde) made a series of visits to Laramie over an 18-month period, conducting hundreds of face-to-face interviews with the town's citizens in order to create this piece. The words and voices of these people, including the college student who first discovered Matthew's broken body, Matthew's friends, teachers, the two young men responsible for his death, and Matthew's father, make this a deeply moving and brutally realistic dramatic experience. This true story of hate, fear, hope, and courage touched and changed many lives and will do so for everyone who reads or watches a performance of this theatrical masterpiece. Prepare Yourself

For tears and tears and tears... I caught this off of my sister's bookshelf and she had told me about it years ago, but I never looked into it until I was on a month's vacation up north with her. Thought I'd span the little big out for a bit, but the damn thing entranced me. I could NOT put it down. I didn't WANT to! The tortured souls explored in this play are exquisite and emotionally compelling. I cried long and hard throughout the entire thing. The best part is when the doctor is describing Aaron and Matthew being in the hospital together... such a difficult read due to the emotions, but an overwhelmingly fantastic true life story about what happens when a town realizes it's own sins.

Excellent introductory ethics text

Having taught philosophy for nearly 30 years, I've had ample opportunity to review quite a few philosophy texts, including ones that focus on ethics. Lewis Vaughn's "Doing Ethics" is one of the best. It is well balanced between general and applied ethics. The first three parts include chapters in subjectivism and emotivism, deontological ethics, consequentialist ethics, virtue ethics, evaluating moral arguments, and the power of moral theories. Part 4 covers abortion, euthanasia, capital punishment, pornography and censorship, sexual morality, affirmative action, environmental ethics, animal rights, warfare, terrorism, and global economic justice. Vaughn presents his own detailed analysis at the beginning of each chapter. The readings that follow are well-balanced and where applicable combine classical and contemporary contributions.

Child friendly and inviting

I have a formal, Spanish translated copy of the Popol Vuh and have not gotten around to reading it. Fortunately, once I bought this child friendly copy, I read it every night to my children and finished it in a little over a week. I might otherwise have taken much longer to get to the famed book. I am grateful Victor Montejo created this colorful, easy to read, English version.

Interesting, fun and educational for kids!

This is one of two books I bought for my grandson, 8, before a trip to the Yucatan. I'd wanted to give him a bit of background on the Maya, and this certainly did the trick. He enjoyed it, as did I.

I love old religious tales
