Specific and well organized

If you are looking at this book chances are you already have a command center and want to improve how it functions. How do you start? A section called "Improvement Recommendations" will get you started. The author recommends:
(1) identify all manual tasks
(2) identify failures by type
(3) use database space management package
(4) implement automated failure recovery
(5) identify all stops
(6) implement self-service desk
(7) replace manual check-off list by automated real-time monitoring.
What metrics should a good monitoring system collect? On pages 99-101 the author provides a list of suggestions. Chapter 9 concentrates on Alerts and how to reduce them. Chapter 10 contains case studies. Case studies 1,5,6 talk about a poorly managed command centers and improvements. Case studies 2,3,4 discuss various aspects of merging several command centers.
Is your business ready to handle a natural disaster? What tasks need to be automated? What contingency plans need to be in place? How to organize your command center for efficient operation? How to reduce a back log of problems? Proactive IT Monitoring provides a guide to address these issues.

It is based on IT Infrastructure Library best practices and covers all of the major processes and functions that one would require to provide high quality services and state of the art automation solutions.
